چکیده

Background The right ventricular (RV) size responds to many cardiopulmonary diseases characterized by chronic pressure and volume overload. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) is considered the “gold-standard” for RV evaluation. The RV end-diastolic volume indexed to body surface area (RVEDVi) has been used for RV size assessment, but this parameter alone may not be sensitive enough to detect RV dilation due to its wide normal range and the lack of consideration of individual heart size. We sought to determine if the assessment of right to left ventricular end-diastolic volume ratio (RVEDV/ LVEDV) in addition to RVEDVi increased the detection of RV dilation in the RV CMR analysis. The application of this ratio is investigated in a control and a Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH) population.

Evaluation of left and right ventricular ejection fraction and volumes from gated blood-pool SPECT in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy: comparison with cardiac MRI.

UNLABELLED This prospective study evaluated the accuracy of electrocardiogram-gated blood-pool SPECT (GBPS) for the assessment of left ventricular (LV) and right ventricular (RV) ejection fraction (EF), end-diastolic volume (EDV), and end-systolic volume (ESV) in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), using cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging as the reference standard. METHODS Thirt...

Particulate Matter Exposure and Cardiopulmonary Differences in the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis

BACKGROUND Particulate matter (PM) exposure may directly affect the pulmonary vasculature. Although the pulmonary vasculature is not easily measurable, differential associations for right ventricular (RV) and left ventricular (LV) mass may provide an indirect assessment of pulmonary vascular damage. OBJECTIVES We tested whether long-term exposure to PM < 2.5 μm (PM2.5) is associated with grea...

4D flow CMR can detect subtle right ventricular dysfunction in primary left ventricular disease

Background Right ventricular (RV) function holds important prognostic value in both rightand left-sided acquired and congenital heart diseases. However, assessment of RV function remains challenging due to its complex chamber geometry and physiology. 4D flow CMR permits assessment of multidimensional intraventricular flow. We hypothesized that 4D flow specific markers of RV function can detect ...

Functional assessment of isolated right heart failure by high resolution in-vivo cardiovascular magnetic resonance in mice.

Precise and noninvasive characterization of the development of the cardiac phenotype in murine models of heart failure has been widely demanded in modern cardiovascular research. High-resolution cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) has been proven to be a powerful tool for the accurate and reproducible assessment of LV and RV parameters in healthy mice. Whereas changes in LV parameters in mo...

Cardiovascular magnetic resonance parameters associated with early transplant-free survival in children with small left hearts following conversion from a univentricular to biventricular circulation

BACKGROUND We sought to identify cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) parameters associated with successful univentricular to biventricular conversion in patients with small left hearts. METHODS Patients with small left heart structures and a univentricular circulation who underwent CMR prior to biventricular conversion were retrospectively identified and divided into 2 anatomic groups: 1)...
